Three states and tktktktkt In a country with a history that is, in reality, the sum of many histories, artisanal expression resists unification — it varies in materials, processes, and results — and even stagnation, considering that one can find the most purist of artisans, devoted to conserving traditional forms, as well as designers and artists who generate contemporary works by pairing new ideas with elements of local tradition.
During his time in Mexico, photographer Sam Youkilis documented the work of nine artisans, artists, and designers in the North, Center, and South of the country.
