A central figure in the Gay Liberation Movement, Marsha P. Johnson is rumored to be one of the first people to begin the seminal Stonewall riot in 1969. The documentary's graphics took inspiration from queer protest signs of the 1960s and 70s, as well as ephemera from S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), an activist organization founded by Marsha and Sylvia Rivera.
