Brand identity and logo design for Roman and Williams' and Sotheby’s new restaurant Marcel, housed in the Breuer building.
Identity Design
The approach draws on primary research into Breuer’s world, spanning his office stationary, street signage with copperplate type prevalent in mid-century New York, anchored by the building’s own architectural language. The typography pairs a script typeface with a sans-serif engravers font — a combination that places Marcel precisely at the cusp of historical and modern that defines the restaurant’s character.
A full identity including signage, a menu system and extensive collateral was designed for the restaurant, with every detail considered in response to the building’s rich architectural and artist's legacy. Collateral ranges from stationery sets to postcards and matchbooks. The attention to detail across the system was intended to create a fully immersive experience.
