A trailer for Devin Freidman’s article about LA’s most iconic mountain lion who elusively lived in Griffith Park for 12 years before being euthanized in December of 2022.
Amidst a rapidly urbanizing world, the story of P-22, a local Mountain Lion who became famous for miraculously crossing two of LA’s busiest interstates and making a home below the city’s iconic Hollywood sign, represents something as ineffable and magic as the City of Angels itself. The very existence of a prehistoric apex predator in Hollywood, transcends reality – this big cat did something that no one thought was possible.
The process of designing the trailer for Dan Freidman’s essay aimed to capture that same magic in the visual language. Our approach employed motion graphics & collage to tell an unlikely story – collisions of materials & media that span time-periods and place, mixing humor and pathos to create an aesthetic embodiment of a P-22 that can only exist in our imaginations.
